  • Social Skills: The students will work cooperatively to learn parts of the coral community.

    • Distribute materials to groups of four.
    • Draw the sequence of the layers in the jar.

Data Processing:

    • Describe the layers of soil.
    • Describe the coral reef at the top of an island volcano.
    • Where would you go to find more information?

Guided Practice: Discover how the soil layers are formed.

Independent Practice: Explain how the limestone layer was formed.

Closure: What is important about the limestone in island volcano formation?

Appraisal:

  • What information was new to you today?
  • What went well in your group? What showed that you needed more assistance/help?
