Block Scheduling
Block Scheduling requires careful planning. A variety of instructional activities are necessary during an extended period. Many options are available. For example, the class may begin with a short, five-minute lesson review, transition into the introduction of the new skill or concept (10-15 minutes), and then move into a cooperative learning activity (25 minutes). The remainder of the period may be used for guided practice, independent study, re-teaching the concept(s) if necessary and closure. In addition, activities such as simulations, skits, and games may be used.
