Cognitivism
Definition
An information processing theory which deals with how people perceive, learn, remember, and think about information. It sees learning as taking place within the learner while focusing on processing rather than behavior. Cognitivism was shaped largely by learning theorists Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, David Ausubel, and Jerome Bruner.
Rationale
This theory allows for unobservable changes in mental knowledge. Reasoning, problem solving, information processing, and other complex forms of learning are involved.
